Direct Tv Installer, Smart Circle

My girlfriend and I are splitting. With Direct Tv in my name, we shopped around for the best deal to transfer the account to hers.

Got a good deal from Menard's in Mansfield, Ohio. The installer was a nice guy. He cleaned up and did a good job. However as far as Direct Cinema goes , he said it may take a little bit for things to download to work with the software and things.

So she signed the contract and he left. The home network as far as being able to record from the base nor the Direct Cinema ended up working. I tried to call the installer right away and he said to check the internet connections and reset the boxes. So I hung up and none of that worked.

I called a technician from directTv and he told me to unplug the ethernet connection on the main DVR box. That took care of the home network as for veiwing from the other rooms . However , as for the Direct Cinema, I need an SWM Splitter and a Deka kit. 30 some dollars.

Direct Tv said they were not responsible even though Direct Cinema was on her contract. They said they were not responsible for the parts. THEY TRIED TO SELL ME ONE ! !

I have tried to call the installer that states Smart Circle on his van at least 5 times including 2 text and he will not return or answer my calls. Gonna try another phone on Mon. My brother had things installed 2 weeks ago and his installer put the neccesary equipment in for everything to work proper.

If anyone has a solution to this problem, Please email me at aquamagic299@***.com. What complete BS

This is an technician issue. Most DirecTV technicians are subcontractors. The unfortunate part of this is the Installation of DirecTV systems is contracted out to other companies who Further Subcontract installations out to other subcontractors.

Where the problem lies is with the companies not maintaining quality control and ensuring that EVERY Installation is completed to standard.

If every job was completed to Standard there would be very little issue with the system and initial setup because the Technician is responsible for ensuring that it works completely.

The solution is simple. You had Multi Room Viewing (MRV) on your order. Multi Room Viewing will not work with the Ethernet cable hooked directly to the DVR. Had the Technician verified that your MRV was working prior to his departing your home and closing the work order as required he would have realized his error and would have been required to fix the issue.

There are many issues with DirecTV using contractors and subcontractors to do the installations. Some are listed.

Pay - Most Technicians that come to your house to do your installations are contractors who are paid by the job. these technicians had to purchase everything right down to the connectors he is putting on the end of the cable and the direcTV shirt he is wearing.

Gas, Vehicle, tools Everything with the exception of the receiver and satellite dish that was used to do the installation was paid for by the technician if he is a Subcontractor.

Most companies are more concerned with getting paid for the installation. If the installation needs to be rescheduled or the work order needs to be modified they frown on it.

I cant tell you the amount of times I have heard "Just do whats on the work order." "If is is supposed to be HD and the work order says Standard just do it, the customer can upgrade later". I ALWAYS do the right thing for the customer. When the company I contract for gets upset for me I always tell them you are welcome to not give me any further work for doing the right thing for the customer. They always give me extra work.

It takes time to do a job right. Most technicians don't want to put in the time to do the job right. This is because they want to get home before dark. They want to use the least amount of materials they can. They don't get paid a whole lot. They have another job to get to. and a myriad of other reasons including Laziness.

DirecTV can get a handle on it but it would cost them A LOT of money. They are in the business of making money for their shareholders. My opinion as a DirecTV Technician (independent contractor) is that they need to get a handle on it. EVERY job needs to be installed to standard and inspected if need be.

Whoever is blaming Smart Circle for this is retarded. Smart Circle is a marketing company that ONLY handles the marketing/promotional side of things, any problems with installs or issues with Direct TV have nothing to do with Smart Circle. ONce you sign up for DTV (or the Home Depot stuff) Smart Circle is done with their end of the business any problems from that point on will be dealt with by the installer or DTV.

Guest

:) Direct TV is not a scam . Smart Circle is not a scam. The comapny is just unorganized and could be better put together.

They put people in owners positions and they leave them to fend for themselves without support.

Its a sink or swim issue and most people without a form of support and outside team efforts will not last more than 6 months. if they do last its part luck and part of what season it is and what they are doing to get sales.

Its very doggy dog system. many hours no life and sale til you cant sell anymore.

Problem is smart circle dos not train any installers if they do its a joke. I am a service tech for directv. I see some of smart circles jobs and they are all ate up jobs and I have to take them out and reinstall them so they will pass directv standards and the national electric code.

Smart circle is known for this type of customer dissatisfaction! The only way to get results is to speak with the stores general manager and file a complaint.

Also, contact smart circle's compliance department. Their main office is in Orange County,CA. The store should have the number or you can find it online. I called 949-609-**** and was able to speak with the compliance manager.

Hope that helps. I'm still not happy with the outcome, it was a horrible experience!

Guest

Let the in store rep know. Smart circle isnt a scam.

I sell DTV for smary circle. the rrp will contact his managet who can gelp you solve the problem.

This Place Sucks

We bought this trip to Cancun through the Smart Circle. We were told this was not a time share and did not need to particpate if one was offered. They lied. This hotel is a joke. We never signed up for a time share promotion but was made to attend (yes, they call your room non-stop until you go) and once we said no to the time share, the staff suddenly didn't know we existed. I can't remember getting one thing we were promised. When talking to the concierge they would tell you to talk to the front desk, while talking to the front desk they would send you to the concierge. Everyone had their hand out. I paid more in tips for *** service than anything else while I was in Cancun. The room was terrible and damp. Granted we were there October 26-31, 2011 and during the tropical storm (begun as Hurricane Rina) however, we had about 2 inches of water on the floor of our room. We placed towels at the front of the door but it is all we could do. The wall leaked in the bathroom and everything was always damp! There was supposed to be three restaurants but there was only one, there was supposed to be two (maybe three bars) but only one was open at a time. We were supposed to be able to go to the sister hotels but then that story changed and was told we didn't pay enough (trust me, we paid plenty). We were told they would look into what happened but they continuously had no answer. We were told if we stayed for 4 days we would receive a lobster dinner. When it came time to collect, they said that we didn't qualify. After some cursing and yelling we were given a voucher for a lobster dinner. A word of advice, don't bother the lobster was cooked to perfect leather. Each meal was the same meal everyday and always a buffet. They would simply try to change the layout. By the end of our trip the rolls were so hard we could not cut them let alone try to eat them. I am sure we could have chipped a tooth with those things. And if you come, I hope you like cold hot dogs because they will be on the buffet quite often. If you are lucky at least one thing you eat will be hot but probably not. I did get a massage at the overly priced spa but I recommend you save your money. The only event that I can recall was Bingo. It was all a big rip-off. Our deal of a lifetime ended up costing about $1000.00 per person (there were 6 of us)and another $400.00 or so in tips.

Scam, False Advertising of Job, Harassment

I joined Smart Circle International, LLC at the San Diego branch. Little did I realize the horrible nature of the company.

They lure you in claiming they do marketing and sales for Fortune 500 companies among their 311 divisions and 15,000 offices, and that if you join their "management training program" and work hard for 6 months you'll then be given your own office and make $150,000 per year. However, what they don't tell you is that it is door-to-door soliciting. The "clients" as they claim are just people that you walk up to on the street or in businesses. They make you work 72 hours a week, don't pay you overtime which is a violation of labor laws.

There is so much harassment and descrimination within the workforce, management picks their favorites and treat others unfairly. And forget raising issues of concern to management because they will just retaliate against you until you quit or until they fire you. And because there is so much bad publicity about this company the local offices which are all set up under different names just keep changing their names. I worked at the San Diego office cosmetics division called Foundation Marketing, Inc., now called Keystone run by Ian Laird, San Diego Campaign Manager, Sandy El-Rayes, Assistant Manager, and headed by Scott Williams, Smart Circle Vice President.

Sandy though just opened the Encino, CA office called Diamond, Inc. Other offices in the cosmetics division headed by Scott Williams include 2k Millenium in New Jersey, IDG in Dallas, Momentum Marketing Group in Cincinati, Skylink in Denver, NewGen Management in Massachusetts, Insight Marketing Group in Michigan, Empire International in Boston, Shu Marketing in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Vantage, Inc in Los Angeles, KC Event Marketing in Overland Park, Kansas.

If you want to do door-to-door sales and work very long hard hours it may be worth it for you to get ahead in business quick. But be very careful because management is corrupt, and if you don't fit within their "inner club" you will be singled out and pushed out.

It’s a cult. You either drink the koolaid, work for next to nothing for 6 months.

Overtime too. But don’t make more then $400 a week if lucky, by the time they scam you out of your quota commission level garbage. Or they will treat you like garbage. AND you can still Do everything the cult asks and if you challenge any head manager they will shun you out the business.

Great learning tools for a REAL job. Not a scam like this. They prey on college students with little to no family influence so they can become your ‘family’ and run your life and be their work horse. They are like come to dinner, team nights we are a family.

They are not!! Run.

Don’t do it. If you do it, learn their program and use those tools for a job that will get you where you really want to go!

I am a soldier with the army and how dare you tell me idk how to work hard. I know better than 90 percent of people what hard work means and what it takes. You shut your commie mouth.

Sandy El-Reyes has opened up another office in San Francisco called GRAYSON CARTER. I submitted my resume for a "Marketing & Communications Associate" position, which was completely misleading, because as everyone says, it's just a door-to-door solicitation position with the lure of growth to attract you to take it. The entire process felt really shady and misleading, and sure enough, after doing some more research, I've come across a lot of information similar to what's on this page (ie "stay away!").

Thanks for this.I was wondering why Smart Circle came up when I googled it on Glassdoor, and this comment gave me the answer.

These people are complete BS!! I worked for them for about 3 months and they did everything possible to bleed me dry and have me make huge sacrifices based on the idea of it being such a short term thing w true payoff and recognition based on hard work and overall performance when the truth is that they use and abuse u until I finally crack and realize that their motives are evil!

I honest felt like they were some kind of a cult and really started questioning the morals and ethics in my own life bcuz they lie to the employees just as much, if not more and detrimental to ones life, then they do even the customers they sale their scrappy products to. I feel sorry for the people that they suck in but I'm glad to be free from them today and I'll take with me what I learned about life by being in their program...

I did take some pretty gigantic life lessons from this mistake and I promise that I will apply them from now forward and when I'm weary by a companies offer of greatness then I'll definitely give my own instincts way more credit now knowing I was correct in feeling weirded out by their whole concept especially since I knew it sounded way too good to be true. It was as it ALWAYS IS!

Guest

Granted door-to-door sales may not have been what you were looking for; but, let's face it...you took the job. I am pretty high up at a Smart Circle marketing company and no complaints.

I have the work ethic and a double Bachelor's. The difference is that I don't see that as a sense of entitlement. The company has just learned that by hiring the entitled people directly gives them a sense of power. We just want to make sure that you can put in the work before we put you in a management position.

And, whoever posted the original and wrote something about Vantage in Los Angeles is WRONG! Do your research!!! They don't go door to door and if you knew anything they DO WORK WITH FORTUNE 500 CLIENTS! All of you that have something bad to say probably just can't put in the work.

I'm so SO sick of these bad reviews when people took the position! And, please stop saying that Smart Circle is a pyramid scheme--why do you say that? Because they have goals for individuals in order to get promoted? Because they don't require a buy-in fee?

Or is it because they allow people an opportunity to get to management THE RIGHT WAY in a short amount of time? I've been with the company a long time and take offense to reviews like this!

Obviously they are successful-they have Fortune100 and Fortune500 Clients that they work with. If they were a scam, do you really think these companies would have them doing their marketing--NO!

Have you been stup*d all your life or did working for Smart Circle dumb you down in record time? First off, yes naive kids take the job with Smart Circle (after responding to misleading job ads).

During the interview, they are handed a big glass of koolaid and then their heads get pumped full of BS and they are lead to believe (wrongly) that they too will one day be rich and successful like their managers (who often have a rundown car that is 20 years old, if they even have a car)! Smart people wise up quickly, leave and post the honest reviews online as a warning to others. You know which reviews I mean, the ones that have you all butthurt and sad. Secondly sweetie, the reason people say it is a pyramid scheme is because IT IS!

And finally, the reason the Fortune 100 and 500 companies continue to do business with Smart Circle is because that is who their freaking contract is with! SMART CIRCLE HQ itself and not the "independent" offices all the U.S. Those companies DO NOT CARE how these little offices treat their employees/contractors, whether they pay them and if they are paying them fairly. They have nothing to do with that and to them, that is the beauty of using a 3rd party company to handle the marketing.

All they care about is having their products promoted and sold. Something for everyone else to think about: if this was such a great opportunity, why would these offices have CONSTANT ads posted? Why is the turnover so freakin' high? If a chance of a job under Smart Circle was SO d@***n great, these offices wouldn't even have to post job ads, they would be like Microsoft, SAS, Goggle, etc and they would be flooded with resumes and people practically begging for a chance to interview with them.

Even McDonalds doesn't have to post job ads as they get plenty of applicants. These Smart Circle offices have a revolving door of people coming and going. My advice: read everything you can about how they work. You will see the same theme repeated again and again: misleading ads, promises of big money and riches, 100% commission pay, no base, lousy working conditions, people unable to pay their rent, losing their car, apartments, going broke, etc.

I wouldn't try to make this work unless I was 19 and lived at home with my parents and they weren't charging me rent. This "job" is not something for people with adult bills to pay. And all that aside, who really wants to be a door-to-door peddler?

Speaking for myself, I have bigger aspirations in life than to walk around all day, desperately trying to peddle stuff so I can get a tiny commission. No thanks!

Let me poke some holes in your argument "Mr/Ms Proud to be a SCI employee."

1) "Granted door-to-door sales may not have been what you were looking for; but, let's face it...you took the job"

People took the job because your company wasn't forthcoming with the business model and what it entailed. When applying, the position is falsely marketed as an "entry level management, entry level marketing, customer relations" or any amalgamation of deceitful lies. Even during the interview process, management tries to convince candidates that they can move up, or provide management training. In reality, the company focuses on having Joe Schmoe, who's looking for a real job by the way, sell cosmetics on the street in the most degrading way possible.

2) "they DO WORK WITH FORTUNE 500 CLIENTS!"

Well maybe some offices under the Smart Circle Umbrella may work with said clients (highly doubt it), but the office I interviewed for in San Francisco, absolutely did not (Grayson Carter). You know who they worked with? They worked with a failed marketing campaign that over estimated the cost of selling a warehouse full of eyeliner. SO, they bought the excess product at a cheap price, claimed the product to be a close substitute for designer brands such as Macy's or Nordstrom's, and sell them on the margin on the streets to passerby's who don't want to be pestered; at the expense and pride of the ripped off recent hires they keep suckering into the business. Is selling cosmetics to people on the street who don't give a *** called "hardwork?" No, that's what I call a *** shame.

3) "please stop saying that Smart Circle is a pyramid scheme--why do you say that?" Smart Circle is a classic example of a pyramid scheme. No it is the Exact embodiment of a pyramid scheme. Let me explain. A pyramid scheme is defined as "an investment fraud in which an individual is offered a distributorship or franchise to market a particular product. The promoter of the pyramid represents that although marketing of the product will result in profits, larger profits will be earned by the sale of franchises. Once the supply of potential investors is exhausted, the pyramid collapses." The promoter is Smart Circle, and the franchises are all the companies under their umbrella. The distributorship occurs when the Smart Circle creates another small business under its belt to go off and find a new market to penetrate. The product, is anything that any of these smaller companies claim to sell. All of the profits made by these smaller companies keep going up the pyramid towards the promoter. But when the Pyramid collapses, is when all is revealed. Foundation Marketing in San Diego, Diamond Inc. in Burbank, Freelance Management Group in Encino, Vibe Management in Los Angeles, and Grayson Carter in San Francisco..... all play a role in the Pyramid Scheme of Smart Circle Marketing. 4) "they allow people an opportunity to get to management THE RIGHT WAY in a short amount of time" There is no right way to get someone at a high managerial level in such a short amount of time. It takes years to get to a manager position, or if you're lucky and have the correct credentials, you can be put into a program that will do that for you. But that program is definitely non existent with a company such as this. With Grayson Carter, they claim that once learning sales, you go on to becoming an account manager, and from there an assistant manager, and finally a manager. That should be a huge red flag there. How can one person learn all the facets of a business from sales, to marketing, to accounting etc in a 8-14 month period. The answer is you can't! There's division of labor for a reason, and claiming that one can attain manager status in such a short time seems a bit fishy to me. 5) "Obviously they are successful-they have fortune 100 and fortune 500 clients that they work with." If they are so successful then why is it that these businesses close all the time? "After they churn and burn through so many people, they start to feel the heat from law enforcement agencies and just close up the branch, move, and change the branch name and start the branch over" (Excerpt from Ripoff Report). Might i add, Sandy El Rayes has moved with each of the branches named above, including Grayson Carter. What's with all the moving? Where is the investment coming from? Why aren't there any reputable literature or articles posted about these companies? Where are the facts, like company networth, or stakeholders, or primary investors, etc? I cannot fathom as to how this company still stays in business. I've said my piece. To those of you reading this, please.... execute your due-diligence and do proper research on the company you plan to apply to. Yours truly, Disgruntled College Graduate

Nah it’s the hardest work I ever did for peanuts. And the y dangle the carrot of having your own business while pining you out.

Smart Circle at Best Buy Gives Bad Service

Updated by user Oct 23, 2011

Smart Circle eventually did contact me and corrected all the issues. The representative did take time to understand the problems, and made sure they were all corrected to my absolute satisfaction. I was very impressed with the follow-up.

Original review Oct 19, 2011
Smart Circle at Best Buy is a terrible organization with which to do business. I do not recommend using them to sign up for DirecTV service. They do not stand behind their representations. They waste your time in endless transfers to various departments to resolve your issues, with the net result of a huge loss of time for you at no cost to them. They do not disclose all the additional charges that will be added to your bill for installation, or the sneaky ways they try to pressure you to sign up for services you don't really need. Their telephone representatives are very pleasant in engaging you in discussion, but in the end, they are not very responsive to your concerns and unable to resolve any issues without the transfers to other departments as described above. I have returned equipment and discontinued service. If you want DirecTV, go to them directly, not through Smart Circle at Best Buy.

Cheated out of money

Had installer by the name of Kevin Burke tell us we need a special order 2" pole ($85.00) and that our 1 5/8" pole would not work with the HD dish. After they installed and left my husband came home and measured the pole and sure enough it was the same size as our 1 5/8" pole. We have been trying to get our money back and just keep getting the run around. Say they will call and an say they have sent an e-mail to tech dept. I even tried to get the tech. dept e-mail and of course they won't give that out. Very dishonest company and employees. Do not do business with them. We also made the mistake of signing up at a Menards store. Stay far away from these shady people,

I too have installed for smart circle, and have heard similar complaints from customers about the sales rep lied or the previous installer screwed something up. All I can say to the customer is to get it in writing what the rep said, so the installer can see it.

And if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

As for the 2" pole, the installer did not lie, and your dumb""" husband needs to learn to read a measuring tape. LOL

I am a corporate dtv technician and the hd dishes can only be mounted on 2 inch pole and wont work on a dish pole so u are def full of *** the poles are different and yea some of that money did go in the techs pocket for the extra work shoulda let him put it on the roof and not been a whinny ***

All of these people are pissed. Heres the reality. The consumer gets the same or a better deal for signing up in a retailer. BTW, that 20 bucks shows up on your first bill if you sign up online. And there is no 100 or 180 dollar gift cards online. We ARE the company that corporate DTV uses for their sales reps. Weird I've been to conferences for Smart Circle where the VP of Directv spoke. The job isnt for everyone, some people are better suited to living at 30k behind a desk. Sign up online if ya wanna or roll into a Costco or Sams and get 180 bucks back plus everything corporate offers. ***.

Installation not complete

The sales rep at Sam's did not inform us that a third party is involved, if that was revealed to us WE would not have agreed. As it stands we were told a date for installation. On that day we received a call stating their truck had broken down 2 miles from our house. As a result we were moved to the back of the line and told we had to wait for four more days. My wife just had surgery and now we have no tv service as we foolishly cancelled or previous service. Calling Smart Circle was extremely frustrating as they had no help to offer. My decision was to cancel everything with Direct TV, never do business with Direct TV, file a complaint with Sam's and the BBB, and return to Charter.

well sir there should have been a note on your work sheet or installation paper that stated "DO NOT CANCEL CHARTER UNTIL AFTER WE INSTALL" that right there is for your benefit and so if something like in your case happened it would of been okay so technically it is your fault

Just a tip from somebody who has NEVER ben beaten by scam artists like Smart Circle. Let the judge decide. Go to your State's Web Site and look up "Small Claims Court". You usually have up to two years to file and cost is minimal. In some states there are ways to have the judgment show up on the Companies D & B. (you usually win as the amount is to small to send someone.)

2nd trick is to demand a copy of the contract. No contract forthcoming creates ground for the above. Then of course there is the state AG complaint form. Some let you fill it out on line.

The whole concept is what I call "The theory of the bigger P.I.T.A (Pain In The Assets). YOU, as a consumer right or wrong raise a big enough stink and someone in the company in authority will say "What is it going to take to get rid of this person"? Once that happens you will likely get your refund or whatever you're looking for.

I went to WAR with DISH and while in fact I legitimately owed them USD$55, I ended up getting a check for nearly $400.00 because the AG in their state was riding them. DO NOT let these B*stards breathe. They count on you saying "it's only $40".

I need Information.

Today I went in for an interview for a company that calls themselves Opti Marketing Inc or Opti Marketing Group, a.k.a OMG. The interview appeared to be legit I sat down with a man named Matthew Jay who is the manger of this branch. He presented the company and made everything sound great. I was told that I would start as a vender and after 2-4 weeks would be promoted, if I do a good job, to supervisor, then to assistant manager and eventually running my own office with my own team. I was told that as a vender I would make $7.25 per hour with commission bonus on top of that. I know that that does not sound like much but then he continued to tell me that no one in his office, due to commission, is making under $960 per week. I thought wow that sounds pretty nice. After being satisfied with what was presented to me I opted to do the second interview that same day which is out in the field with the current assistant manager. I had to drive 30 minutes to Bestbuy where I would get to observe what to expect as a vender. Upon arriving at Bestbuy, where I met up with the assistant manager, I began to realize that everything Matthew Jay presented to me in the first interview was a LIE!!! I found out that the $7.25 per hour was called "front money". Meaning that I would have to pay this money back to the company once I was making decent money off commission and then the $7.25 turns into 100% commission which would be all profit once the "front money" was paid back. I also learned that no one employed by this office was making the $960 that Matthew Jay claimed they were. They were lucky if they made $500. I am thankful that this information was revealed to me before I quite my job with benefits which is something Opti Marketing does not offer.

I am pretty sure that this whole "front money" thing is illegal. They are taking out taxes on it as thought this money is yours to spend and then turning around and taking it back. If anyone knows anything about how this could be legal or has definite proof that it is illegal I would like to hear what you have to say.

What I need to know is if anyone else has ever gone into Opti Marketing for an interview and if so, was the information similar to what I have said here? I am going to do everything that I can to have this office shut down before they get someone to leave a job that is paying the bills for a LIE!! So if anyone has anything or if you have been employed by this company I would be very greatfull to hear from you. My email is tdbehler@***.com.

I did the job for a couple of weeks. Nice enough people on staff, but I saw the futility of the job and started to do the math.

I also hated the fact that, to be successful, I had to be "That Annoying Guy" who was doing a job that ranks somewhere in job status between drawrf tossing and ***. I can't see anyone doing the job for long.

There is only one promotion and this is in DIRECTV.COM all retailers have to follow this promotion, If you know what are you offering to the customers with the true this is a good job for anyone.... explain to every customers the different between standard installation and custom install

Guest

Why this is happening ,because the sale Rep, don't know how to explain everything to the customer I mean everything...I do sale for directv and I never have a problem or complain with the customer..I'm making from 1,500 to 2.000 every week I do sales since 2001. the sales person have to follow the directv promotion how go into directv.com and learn ,read ,ask and you never will have a complain

Guest

Folks,

Direct sales isn't for the faint of heart. One of the reasons you get paid thousands more in Sales is because the job is HARD and therein lies the rub with Smart Circle and its affiliates. Plain and simple the dollars aren't there for the work involved.

My advice is simple yet two fold, One, Stay away from these people for your own financial & emotional sanity. Two. If you have gotten involved and have ANY concerns contact your States Attorney General and their Department of Labor and file a formal complaint TODAY. Thirdly if you're in a reallt foul mood contact the local media and if a slow news days shows up your affiliate just might be the target of an inquiry.

What you DO NOT do is sit on your assets and whine. Take Action, Media and Government exposure is the key. I;m "waiting" on a check. No check and we shall see how well Smart Circle enjoys the spotlight.

Guest

Worked for similiar company in mobile al called coast to coast events. Complete SCAM.

everyone is braimwashed into thinking SC is the best job ever and every other job is pointless. No benefits, work weekends and holidays and terrible paychecks. This company targets losers and brainwashes them into thinking they will be successful.

Dont waste your time. My owner was a fat sloppy tool who bragged about how rich he was but he drove a hundai.

Guest

You mean if 4-7 apps get installed with no custom fees and don't get clawed back from the 1st week that you worked trying to figure out what the *** was going on because the "owner" knows less about sales training and leadership than a walrus, and I'm pretty sure that there is a walrus somewhere that feels insulted right now.

Your company takes eager young people and turns them into spineless, pathological liars who will say and do anything they have to to get a sale because they know that they have to sell at least 8 to make maybe $300 after NLOS, NO LLA, Change of Hearts, custom fees, and their regular cable company giving them a better deal when they stay with them. And that 8 apps that they write for $300 took them 6 days a week working 12 hour days...

You create smart circle zombies, they once had goals and dreams, and then you reprogram them into having smart circle hopes and dreams. It's a good thing that you only hire fresh faced young people who have no work experience and former criminals who can kind of pass a background check but really it's up to the "owners" discretion! I know a number of bright and talented young people who have become bitter and souless because of the lies that this company tells in order to recruit as many people as they can so they can make a quick buck. Because it doesn't matter if they make it or not, or if you can find a reason not to pay them or not, Smart Circle will always make money off of them at the end of the day.

As far as spending money on a person before they even start, you make that back after one install!

Sometimes if it looks like ***, and smells like ***, there is NO way to deny it! And the sad thing is, your clients don't care about what tactics you use because they are just as dirty as smart circle

Guest

First of all, your experience is going to depend entirely on the owner of the office where you are hired. Smart Circle absolutely tries to push people into ownership before they are ready. There are no education or previous experience requirements. Therefore, most owners are really young and inexperienced. Yet, they are taught to act like they know more than someone with 20 years of sales experience.

They do require drug screening after 2 weeks with the company, but most people are weeded out before that ever happens (most leave on their own). The draw comes out to $7.25 an hour for a 50 hour work week. But most of the time, you end up working over 60 hours, so it's not even minimum wage. Sometimes you get a 15 minute break in a 10 hour day. Sometimes you don't.

The system CAN work. However, there are a lot of obstacles to overcome and you have to look at the whole picture, not just what they tell you. Even when an owner tells you it's "plain and simple," its just isn't. You will be trained to lie. You will be lied to. Details will be left out until later dates. By the time you get the whole picture, they want to promote you to owner.

By the way, if they are paying $40 for the name badges they provide, they got scammed! It's a piece of paper in a plastic holder. On top of that, $100 invested in a new employee is nothing compared to what most companies spend.

Guest

Everything about this company is a sham! They should be kicked out of all retailers and DIRECTV should realize how bad it is for them to associate with this SmartCircle company.

Period! Horrible customer service!

Horrible company! They should be investigated!

Howard Xib

The opportunity was presented to you wrong and I do apologize for you for that. When you have bad owners out there it tends to make it bad for everyone.

The pay system we use is a draw meaning we are advanceing you minimum wage agaist future comissions just like they do at car lots and many sales jobs, now by law we cn recover these funds but it is up to the owner. You have to remember when you first come on board we run a bg check thats 10.00 we schedule a drug test thats 50 and we provide you with a uniform do all the paperwork and a badge thats about 40 so coming into the business we have already invested 100.00 into you. Not to mention if you dont have waht it takes to be sucessful in sales then were aying you minimum wage, and if you leave before we can get you properly trained and doing good then we eaten everything weve already invested into you. Last sales is based on your skill level a sucessful sales person will do between 4-7 apps per week which will net you 400-700 dollars a week if the business is not for you you will probaly average 1-2 apps a week and not be there long anyway.

working 6days at 48 hours thats 14.58 an hour so tell me the Mc Donalds thats pays that.

I do know of one and thats in Atlanta if your interested. You just dealt with an owner who shouldnt be one.

Direct Tv/Smart Circle

I signed up at Best Buy for Direct TV installation. The installer wanted to charge extra fees, but was unable to complete install. He did not charge so that was okay, however no matter how many times I called Direct TV and spoke with several different people all they could say was that I should have talked to someone with Direct TV. Well they guy at Best Buy had a Direct TV shirt on.... so he must represent them. Anyway I said cancel your service and haven't had any luck yet doing so. I am calling the credit card company to stop the payment that should work. At this point I won't be using either of the companies services....ever.

I would return to Sam's club and have it out with the person that sold me the package. They are representatives of DTV and are paid by DTV. DTV uses this excuse so as not to be held accountable.

Guest

Screw the corporations and the big box stores. Deal locally with private and small business.

Keep your money in the community and do business with the little guy who actually makes an effort to improve the customer experience at every turn.

When the same face who sold you something is the same face who comes to your home to install it, there is a certain level of accountability there. This provides a customer experience far superior from what you get with any crook claiming to be an agent of any company.

Guest

I used to work for smart circle inside of Sams Club. I can assure you that it is all real and not a scam.

You may not be talking to an employee of Direct TV but they are representatives of the Company. Not sure if you know this but most everybody that represents the company doesn't actually work for them, including the installers. The 19.95 is for shipping and handling for you equipment. Yes the salesmen are making commission just like if you called in your order, the difference is you get a better deal by signing up in one of these stores.

Best Buy gives you several hundred dollars off of a new tv when you sign up. Sams Club saves you an additional $15 a month for a year.

your the reason I will not to Best Buy, Sams Club and Mernards. You run around the store and act like your a expert at what i am looking at. I don't want a 2 year contract that in the fine print charges me full price in the 2nd year.

Guest

You're lying. There is no way possible that directv could bill you without being installed already.

And the 19.95 upfront is 5 bucks cheaper than what shows up on your 1st Bill by calling n signing up with corporate dtv.

You are an *** sir. Read the fine print.

Went into Best Buy to sign up for Direct TV. There was a man in a Direct TV shirt, in a Direct TV display booth, with all sorts of Direct TV materials. We discussed the package we wanted. We worked this all out on a Direct TV order from. He put us on the phone were we gave our credit information to a Direct TV order taker and installation schedular.

However, he did NOT WORK FOR DIRECT TV. The fee was NOT REQUIRED by Direct TV to install Direct TV. The phone order taker was NOT Direct TV. The service they promised NEVER came. We were charged the first and second month by Direct TV on top of the fee charged by this pretender. Direct TV refunded our money. The pretender, Smart Circle, did not.

If you want Direct TV be careful. There are pretenders out there.

Guest

one of the things to note if signing up in a retail store, be it best buy, walmart, or sams is that you are signing up with a different part pof directv. one the rep at the store is paid commision, 2 the tech who installs buys all the equipment as opposed to corprate where it is given free.

thus pole monts, special monts and extra lines are charged. now we are not just pocketing the cash we report it and on somethings turn in money. the thing is that directv also charges the same things in corprate but you don't see. becuase it is also reported to them and they have to recoup the money somehow.

the basic mount cost 60-120 dollars.

so it is not a scam but everything is up front and everything you can be charged for is in the packet they give. important to read it before installer arrives not to be suprised.

Bait and Switch, DirecTv scam at Sam's Club

At Sams Club a scam artist posing as a DirecTV rep talked us into switchng from Dish. He told us we would have the same DVR features we had with Dish.

When the installation person showed up with different equipment we questioned it. He said it would work the same. Well it doesn't and when I call DTV to complain they said it's not our problem, your equipment was bought through a third party, call them. When I call S.C.I.

they say, your service has already been installed call DTV.

Stay away from DirecTv and SCI.

Smart Circle doesn't install the sales. They sub those out to other companies who do the installs.

SC then pits those companies against each other so that the pressure to increase job installation speed, completion percentage and service calls are kept at a bare minimum or you lose your contract. There have been 5 different Smart Circle installation subcontracting companies in the Nashville area over the last 3 years. The key for Smart Circle is to make it impossible for any subcontractor to complete the jobs at the required limits so that Smart Circle may then back charge the subcontractor sometimes for more than the jobs even paid. Subcontractors are always looking over shoulders afraid that another contractor may be moving in.

This all filters down to the tech who actually does the install leading to the best tech's finding better, more stable work. Without good tech's, you get shoddy work and a rise in customer complaints. Without good tech's, DirecTV sits on a shelf because it doesn't install itself. Salesmen should be forced to role with a tech for one week minimum before they can work in a store.

They make a tech's life miserable with all the lie's and deceit that they use to get sales. All together, I am very surprised DirecTV allows for this company to operate at all. The day is coming when the Better Business Bureau will investigate Smart Circle and shut it down.

For all intent and purposes, it is a *** of a scam all the way around.

Guest

I just recently quit working for Smart Circle...It is all a scam! First off when the so called HR lady Whitney called she said that I was going to be working for DTV and I was going to be in a call center..when she told me to go to Sam's I thought that the DTV station was going to be across from Sam's!!

Wrong it was in Sam's and most of the interview and meetings was in their food court! Before getting hired the so called owner said that I was going to be getting paid weekly on a Monday! So Im in my second week and I still havent gotten paid! I wont get paid til this Monday after next!

Wtf? So when we started questioning more about who we really work for and more about the company! The owner got defensive! Threatning to fire me!

First because he wanted me to drive to Fort Walton then to Pensacola...which was way out of my league! So when I told him he was inconvieniencing me it pissed him off so I quit!

The owner also claims to make a quarter mil a year but drives a busted *** truck with a *** load of trash in the front! So if anyone ever gets interested in working for Smart Circle do believe that it is a scam!

Guest

Thanks for all your advice. Although it looks like I could possibly save money???

The only one of you who made sense and could spell was an installer. I bet if he pitch a sale I would buy from him direct since he knows first hand what I will get. Rep for a smart circle direct's comment was written when he was under the influence of some strong drug or tequila.

I could not see him selling anything legal to a person with a brain. No offence, but maybe you should finish your GED.

Thanks for making up my mind to stick with cable.

I worked at smart circle for a month out of KY. I was so excited I was going to be working in marketing, as a communication major, who wouldn't be thrilled to hear they could earn several hundreds of dollars a week?

Greg out of college, I was a prime candidate, young and dumb. Honestly looking back I don't even know how I lasted a month. I'm a smart hard worker, and I am confident I could have been one of the best, if being the best didn't entail being a Fing *** to people. The sci philosophy is fake it til you make it....

When selling a product, I wasn't going to lie to a consumer, that goes against everything I believe in. people working hard got their money, to be lured into something they don't know what they are getting. But enough about that... My REAL issue is my former manager.

What a *** my philosophy in the store wad to be upfront with people, tell them exactly what they were getting and if I couldn't get then an excellent deal I told them it wasn't worth the switch, and that worked for me. Well when you first start as a sales rep, you are in training for 5 days. During those give days, the person training you is supposed to give you every application that you contributed in getting, up to your first 4. Well my *** boss didn't give me ***, BC he ”forgot.” So on day two, I signed my first person up BC I knew he want going to help me.

I was out on my own on day 3, and did decent, that was until my boss started bring borderline verbally abusive. Now I thought about writing but realized that I was going to have tons of *** bosses and I was going to need to learn to be less sensitive... So I stuck it out BC i'm not a quitter. That was until my boss came to the store to babysit me,.which was fine until he stole a sale right out from under me.

By this I mean I had gotten someone to the table and wad in the midst of showing him what he would be getting if he switched. He then told me that he and his family had discussed switching but that we didn't get a channel they wanted. I open my mouth to tell him that Dtv did in fact have that channel and my boss interrupts me, by saying oh I haven't taught you this yet... As though I was a trainee.

Moves me out of the way and takes the sale. I was baffled and angry and shaking. After the sale had Bern completed I told him how I felt like he stole the sale, he proceeded to tell me that if I got 2 more sales, he would credit me for the stolen sale.... Do you're telling me if I put 200 more dollars in your pocket you'll give me weekday wad mine to begin with....

Yeah ok. And in that moment knew I was going to quit at the days end.

But honestly I got the last laugh, my last treetop paychecks he had to almost completely pay out of pocket. But as far as using smart circle, don't let them impulse you BC at the end of the day you're just a paycheck to then.

Guest

1)We were very clear about what service we had with Dish and the Smart Circle rep told us it would be the same. What he put down on paper and the end result were different. It's NOT the same as what we had.(we were scamed)

2)Installation was done incorrectly,by SC tech, DirecTV had to send out a tech to correct a problem.

3)Smart Circle Reps are no longer in our Sams Club. Management said they had to many complaints.

4) Dish Network is by far better than DirecTV. I share that with everyone I can and will until this contract is over.

5) It's interesting that the only people on here that defend Smart Circle is their employees. Maybe as the end sales person your doing your job to the best that you can do. The problem is, when there is a mistake made no one at Smart Circle or DirecTV want to take responsibility for it. They just blame the other party. DirecTV has the attitude "don't like what you got, just pay the early termination fee and leave." They don't want happy customers they want their money.

I do not work for smart circle. I have used both DISH and Direct TV.

There is no comparison.Direct TV is superior. If you do know that.

you're not using it correctly. You couldn't pay me to go back to DISH.

Guest

Welcome to America folks ...

Guest

It is your job as a consumer to find out what you are getting. LOL, thats like blaming Obama for the economy - The economy is a direct result of the consumer market.

As for Smart Circle, they outline EVERYTHING that you're getting. And YES it is absolutely Directv that you're getting. Smart Circle gives you more for your money. Why would Best Buy or Costco or Sams have them in their store if it was a scam.

I guess you want to call Best Buy a scam too.

Pay attention to what you're buying and ask questions - everything should be outlined on your order sheet and explained. IF not, you were not a smart consumer.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-467968

You need to check your facts. Best Buy and the rest of the retailers do not invite them in.

The owners have to beg them to let them in. Call DTV as a customer and you will find they can give you the same deals as smart circle. Quit buying the *** you are being fed.

The installers smart circle are not trained professionals yet the DTV coporate installers are. Smart circle is a scam!

Guest

Smart Circle is not a scam - this is real simple - people screw up! Granted there are flaky sales people everywhere (bought a car lately?) The installation tech should go over your order when he first arrives.

If the order is wrong it can be corrected at that time. This may mean that you will have to reschedule but at least you will get the correct equipment. NEVER NEVER NEVER go through DTV corporate to place an order! These guys make lots more mistakes than Smart Circle and they will flat out lie to you!

In addition, when you go thru corporate or online the equipment you get can be USED! Call it refurbished if you wish but it is still used. So, please place your order thru Smart Circle or thru your local dealer - you only get new equipment and face to face is almost always better. And, no, I do not work for Smart Circle, I do installations for them and have first hand experience regarding their reliability.

Regardless, DTV has the best stuff out there! Ciao

I, bought one of these Smart Circle Cards from a sells person and was told this card never expires.Funny, and has no expired date on card.Well, i call Southern Belle in Chattanooga, Tn. and they say never heard of this before. And, the picture is on the front of the card.Never, buy one no good................

Guest

This company does the same thing with direct tv. They dress in direct tv shorts trying to sell direct tv to customers. They end up tacking on a few bucks and making all profit from it.

Guest

Smart Circle cards are awesome! I've saved tons of money on MLB and NBA tickets by using their certificates.

Guest

SCAM & market deception at it's finest. I filed with the PA Attorney General.

My partner got "sweet" talked into this one.

NEVER is a Gratuity a REQUIREMENT, if it is - Then my Dear it is a "FEE". Very Simple!

Guest

I purchased a hair salon/spa card in Cypress, CA and they did honor it just only on Tuesdays and Thursdays which they should tell you when you buy it. But I did go and it was a great deal when I used it. I have heard the Vegas ones did not have any openings to honor the card for a few months though.

Guest

you need to call the company and see if they still accept the cards. From what I can tell, smart circle screws their employees over, but it's the businesses that decide to stop honoring the cards (IE, smoothie king who agreed to partner with smart card and then cancel after the coupons got out).

I bought one at a sams clubs for the Stone Mountain Golf course in Atlanta and have used all the free greens fees and all the weekend buy 1 get 1 free coupons and they have never questioned the cards or seemed upset I was using them. Been looking at their cards online to try out a few other local courses they have around here.

Guest

i have purchased many smart circle cards and they have all been accepted, i recommend them to anyone for yourself, or a great gift

Guest

Does anyone know anythng about smart circle's The Travel Lion offer.

It says you purchase first two nights get 5 free.

sounds too good to be true

Smart Circle International DirecTV Scam

Buyer beware! Do not sign up for DirecTV service from Smart Circle International posing as DirecTV representatives in Sam's Club. They will charge you upfront for items that are FREE for new customers. They are pocketing 100% pure profit. They don't even report what you have paid to DirecTV. All new customers receive new equipment and installation for FREE, if Smart Circle International wants to charge you for it they are simply pocketing your money and not reporting your payment to DirecTV. They are slick too, because you only have 24 hours to report the fraud. They also promise you services that you are not getting, but once you have signed up for a 24 month contract you are stuck and have to pay $20 for each month you cancelled your contract early. If you want DirecTV go to them directly. Don't let someone sign you up and make you pay upfront. Please comment if you have been dupped by them too!

I been in the business since mid 2014 trust me on this.

This is so incorrect. I signed up for Direct TV in Menard and was more then satisfied with the information given to me. They did charge me a $19.95 shipping fee and a $1 hold which I got back in 24 hours, I also out of curiosity called Direct TV directly to set up my rental house for my tenants and went that route just out of curiosity as to who really gave a better deal.

Both charged the $19.95, whoever the Menard deal was so much better and I saved about $9 a month an the exact same set up going through Menard then Direct TV corporate.

No complaints here.

I am recently widowed and while I was shopping at Wal-Mart in Clarksville IN I was aggressively approached by "JAKE" a representative for Direct TV.....he told me I had to pay him $21. up front for the shipping cost if the fish etc...he ran literally ran up to the service desk and got a green dot card ...as I explained my debit card has not been mailed to me..as I opened a New checking account ...he said don't tell the lady on The phone this is a prepaid card tell her it is a bank card....He also said I would get high speed internet and over 50 channels..for $39.

a month...an other lie....I asked for a phone number for me to call with any questions...okay...the one number is his cell phone and after leaving him 4 msg he has yet to return my call...when I finally got someone to answer from Direct TV..I was informed...I was lied to that I will not get internet thru them...I would have to use a company that offers internet....I have gotten an attorney now to get me out of the contract...since Direct TV is charging me $20.

a month for 2 yrs because I cancelled...!!! They are scammers...they lie to get your money...abd they are too aggressive....literally following me thru the store not taking no for an answer!!

Okay, I think (at least the first twenty plus comments I read) this is comment thread is getting away from identifying the misconception of the original report. Full Disclosure: I work for Smart Circle, I love my job, but I'm not going to defend it here.

The issue at hand is the complaint that Smart Circle charges you for equipment when Directv Corp. does not. This is both true and not true.

If you are asked to pay upfront for the equipment it's because you came back a medium or high risk customer.

Most often this is the case because you have poor credit (or in certain cases, you just made BIG purchases such as a new car and or house, so you're considered a risk regardless of how great or poor your credit is). If you have were asked to pay upfront for the equipment in store (ie via smart circle), you will also have to pay that upfront security deposit on the equipment with DirecTV Corp. as well.

This is clearly the case here, in the original complaint.

If you have any additional questions, concerns, or want to sign up for DirecTV without being lied to, feel free to email me at Major.dtv@***.com :)

I've had no Smartcircle.com

I saw the Complaint about smallcircle.com. I was surprised by it because I use their Dodger Home game coupons from them every year for the past 4 years. I use them at the box office and I get the tickets I want every time with NO problems. Maybe the girl who sold the restaraunt coupons the the consumer was a scam artist. I've recently bought coupons for Clipper tickets and have used one already, WITH NO PROBLEM. By the way I buy them at Sam's Club from an independent vendor. So that doesn't sound like a scam to me. Like I said before the person selling those coupons may have been a scam artist.
