Slave Labor Scam

Worked 80 hrs a week selling telecom products door to door. Paid almost nothing. $60 dollar checks for baking in the sun going door to door. Was told that if we didnt work on weekends we would be fired by monday. Had to conduct interviews that consisted of lying to potential new hires. We were instructed to tell them that they would be making 800-1k per week. We actually held several "leaders meetings" on this process of lying to interviewees. Con artists, stay away. Mandatory 15 hr days for "leaders" that consisted of getting berated by the con artist "CEO" who claimed to be making over 300k a year, yet drove a piece of crap car and lived in a *** apartment.

Directv installation gone wrong.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I just signed up for Directv through Costco. They use Smart Circle for sales, installation and tech support.

Installed 7/3. First, I had a difficult job of understanding him. I signed off on his job at end, but how is someone to know until you can fully use the system. By that evening, my main TV wasn't getting signal.

I am very computer literate and I could not get signal to my main tv. The main box/dvr is at a different tv, because the main tv is 4k and you need a portable wired 4K mini there. All the other TVs worked but that one. Since he did a fresh wire from box to coax connection in wall, I assumed that was OK and that it was a signal problem.

I tried calling the so-called HOTLINE that Costco gives you. It is to Smart Circle, not DirecTV. All I got was a VM loop. I called Directv instead.

They came out. They had to put a new coax at main tv. Installer never put support arms on dish mounted at wall. just wall plate.

Never connected Internet to main box. So On Demand didn't work. Was to have an appointment to review situation today and no one showed up, but got a LATE call from same technician. How am I to review this situation with the person that did a bad job from the beginning?

They won't let me talk with a supervisor. So NO ONE will know what the heck this guy didn't do right.

Are you a psychopath? Are you a ***? Do you have no moral compass? If so, Smart Circle International is the place for you.

Everybody hears about bad companies but with these guys, seeing is believing. Everything about this place is a lie. They lie to their employees, their customers and their clients. The entire scam is set up to screw their reps. It's a turn and burn operation where new reps are overworked, cheated, and abused until they wake up and quit.

They would have to be the worst people on the planet. If you have a shred of decency or a soul, run like the wind because this business is terrible.

Bunch of Scammers

Take it for what its worth, but Im still a true believer that "if something sounds too good to be true" its usually a bunch of BS. Smart Circle hit me up while I was minding my own business and shopping in Menards. They told me how great of a deal I could get me with Direct tv while never one time telling me they were not actually Direct TV. When they started wanting my SSN and bank card numbers, that's when I said to forget it. Never again!! The sad part is I was actually thinkin about switching to Direct tv but I have my doubts now....

They will lie to you. They will steal from you. They will work you to the bone and when you end up leaving, it will be with nothing. It's all about finding ignorant kids who will buy into their dream long enough to make the company some money. I said company because you won't see any. On the bright side, working for these *** will open your eyes to the nasty side of humanity (it's just a word because I don't believe they're human). Smart Circle is evil and that's why their nickname is devilcorp. Google it.

Smart circle pays you a base pay where most other companies of this kind do not. As with other direct marketing jobs there is a high turnover. When I worked for smart circle I made $750 in one day on commissions.

Good for you but there's no denying that this company has screwed millions of people in their 30 year history. Why do you think "Smart Circle" is their fourth business name?

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1134926

You may have made $750 in one day (I have my doubts), but what you are leaving out is the part where you didn't earn a dime the days/weeks following that!! If these direct sales jobs were as profitable and rewarding as the individual offices make out like, they would not have to actively pursue a constant stream of applicants with their 24/7, 365 days a year ads on various job boards and by constantly searching for resumes posted online.

Many people have reported having managers approach them while they are at work at their restaurant/retail, etc jobs. Remember folks: if it were such a great opportunity, we all would be doing it or trying to do it.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1135084

This isn't true. They have a high turnover rate because only 5% of the individuals they hire are actually willing to do the work.

There's a reason that there's some guys making 1200+ per week and some making 100 per week. It's sales, hardcore sales, definitely not for everyone.

It's like trying to get a 9-5er to become an entrepreneur it just don't work. Everyone thinks things should be handed to them

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1239378

You are taught to say that! LMAO!

You cannot deny that you are told that repetitively in your mandatory morning meetings. You are just parroting what has been spoon-feed to you. You are nothing but a brainless sheep! When you wake from your coma, you will finally realize the high-turnover is due to people refusing to work for no pay and no benefits!

Your claim that no one wants to work is laughable. If no one wanted to work, then the U.S.

would be a third world country and not the richest country in the world. Go drink some more kool-aid and when you finally come to your senses, then come back here and admit your ****ty!

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1239378

If it's 'not for everyone', then why do they hire everyone? You'd think they'd be little more selective in their hiring process by now.

Basic English and a pulse are the only two requirements for the job. Furthermore, why do they post ads that deliberately mislead job seekers like ones for management and customer service? If it's not for everyone, shouldn't they be looking for salesmen/women?

Wake up buddy. Entrepreneurs don't have bosses.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1134926

You may have made that on paper, but I bet anything you did not see even 1/4 of that money in your paycheck! You forgot to tell us that part!

I think anyone who works for Smart Circle will appreciate every job they have after that. I see on RoR that some locations are claiming to sue ex-employees for libel. I guess no one ever explained to them that TRUTH is an absolute defense to any claims of libel/slander/defamation.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? It's just a dirt-bag marketing company that changes names every few years. Of course by marketing I mean sales and by dirt-bag I mean unscrupulous, unprincipled, and shameless.

Jut like The Black Death ravaged Europe, this amoral company has spread it's cancer across the globe enslaving many brilliant souls. It's guilty of horrible business practices and is responsible for much grief and suffering.

These guys are the black sheep of the business world. Anything they touch gets complaint after complaint and there are thousands of them. If getting complaints and having a lousy reputation were an Olympic sport, Smart Circle would be on the podium every four years.

Seriously 12-13 hour work days. I was there for a whole year and a month. Trained and trained made minimum wage and right before i resigned they were making "changes" nationwide on pay....NOT WORTH IT!! 100% COMMISSION, HOURLY VS. COMISSION, NOR HOURLY+ COMISSION....IT IS NOT WORTH IT!! GET THE EXPERIENCE U NEED AND GET OUT I WOULD GIVE IT 3 MONTHS AND be strong minded. They will try and "coach" u to stay......dont do it.

I wouldn't give it 3 minutes and most people could not afford to even give it 3 weeks. The odds that you can work this job and pay rent, utilities, a car note and food is about zero.

Also, don't forget, they will have you putting tons of miles on your car and driving all over the place without reimbursement. Don't waste your time here, you can't even work this job and look for another one as they have you working 6 days a week 12-15 hours a day.

Don't let your desperation for a job cloud your better judgment. There is a reason these type companies have an astronomical turnover rate.

Direct T.v

I am very upset that costco is allowing a unethical marketing company "smart circle" to do business inside costco retailers. these sales people Lie and mislead the members and say they are getting an exclusive deal by signing up in costco This is not true.

you can go to direct tv .com and get the exact same deals. These employees are not employed by direct t.v they are employees of smart circle which is the same as cydcor and ds.max Please take the time to google one or all of these companies you will find they are all the same and are unethical business owners.

This person is lying. Sometimes you can get exclusive deals by buying directv through smart circle in Costco or Best buy.

I got a 100 dollar gift card for Best Buy from getting directv in Best buy that you could not get online. You would also get an 100 dollar visa gift card as well you can't get online.

Nice try but there have been too many current and former employees who have reported it is not a good deal when buying through the Smart Circle offices.

Guest

Maybe you wee trying to get something for nothing free installation is free only when you have a wire ran straight in from an outside wall so if you have a doorway between the outside wall and your tv you have to run the wire a custom wall Hence the term custom installation I don't understand why people don't understand that the longer it takes to run the wire the more money it cost

Misrepresentation

Ordered DirecTV from sales rep at Sam's Club in Albuquerque (west side). She (Francella) did not tell us that MANY of the channels that we will receive are INFOMERCIALS or that there is NO -- repeat, NO -- grace period to try the service. We're also finding that many of the channels are a bait & switch for (additional) pay per view. Additionally, sales rep promised to buy our old TV from us. She did not show up as promised & would not respond to our text messages to her. Obviously, we feel that she likely never intended to buy it at all but used the promise as a come on. We intend to complain directly to Sam's Club & possibly the New Mexico Attorney General.

Seeing this similar "misrepresentation" at Owasso, OK store. I'm thinking Smart Circle is due for another class action lawsuit.

In our case the sales person said the new satellite dishes would keep the signal in thunderstorms. Not true, so when the tornado warnings come, your TV has no picture of the weather system on top of you. Not the case with a land line cable hook up.

Now they want a $400 disconnect fee.

Want to join up on a blog and start posting complaints against Walmart and Sam's for allowing them to pitch their wares in their stores?

Guest

You should definitely complain to Sam's Club, since the are allowing them in there, complain to DirecTV and to your AG's office! And warn your friends!

Good for you! But for smart circle to hire and trust in the managers/owners they should definitely work closer with them it's not a handful of owners that are manipulative it's a handful that are not! Sad thing is the guys that have been in the business for several years mosier, Schuch, Mike t., ahmad hagler Etc manipulate and train a cult following by talking about big money, showing it then take it away from them, they all have cheat, stole, robbed from young people for several years! The company is a huge scam that will continue to barely be legal! Hopefully sams, costco, some of the other retailers wake up like best buy did and erase them!

I have to say that it's refreshing to walk into Best Buy and not be harassed by a twenty-something money hungry parasite. If I want Directv, I know how to get it. Maybe someday I'll feel comfortable shopping at Sam's again.

Smart Circle International - Employment Review from New York, New York

J-Mason, Inc. NYC. Same deal, different name. The top leaders are sick, selfish, manipulative people. This is a cult, not a job. I thought I applied to a promotional marketing firm that helped to teach people to get ahead in business. I would wake up at 5:30 each morning to make it there earlier than 8, whereupon we would practice "systems" for successful sales. I had never read anything in any business or marketing text books remotely similar. They were more or less ways to manipulate people into buying, and manipulate employees into believing that 6 hours spent carrying 45lbs on your back while running around NYC, was going to make you rich. If you said it was hurting your back or if you wanted to stop and eat lunch, the "leader" you were out with would say that you were "having a negative attitude" and "lacked work ethic". Along with that, they did not honor the contract that I signed about my pay and hours. When I politely called them out on it, I was promptly told I was "not right for the program", and fired. Do not work here. Be very careful of any job postings that are for a "promotional" company you never heard of. They will lie to you at your interview, and even have you sign the papers to believe it's an amazing opportunity.

Be wary of any company that advertises itself as sports-marketing / events promotions / direct sales / entry-level management. Be careful of what you sign.

A lot of these companies make you sign documents where you agree to be a 1099 contractor, which means you will be paid commission only and you will be responsible for ALL taxes at the end of year. While your gainfully-employed friends are getting fat refunds, you will owe money to the govt.

While you are attending all these meetings and not getting paid, keep in mind these companies are in violation of your state's labor laws regarding 100 employee contractors. Do your research, ask questions, use your brain, be careful!

Mind Altering Chicanery

This company is nothing more than a cult created to keep a steady steam of cash flowing into the pockets of those who created it. The entire leadership/promotion process is designed to turn you into a cold-hearted individual who knows how to manipulate the underprivileged and uneducated. Smart Circle hates it when people go through the process quickly and they make sure that it's so difficult that only a small percentage of reps actually advance. They want you to spend as much time as possible as a "leader" so that you become well versed in the "art" of conning people. Your manager/owner teaches you how to manipulate your trainees in order to keep them for as long as possible. It's not his fault, he's just been brainwashed into believing that the only way to get ahead is by screwing people. Leaders for this company start out as very talented individuals but the process turns them into money hungry/desperate people that hate others. This is done by design. Cheaters Prosper. Similarities on how Smart Circle offices operate vs. how cults operate is a subject worthy of some consideration. 1. Subject the member to fatigue and or stressful conditions. Like a cult, fatiguing a new rep is very important to Smart Circle. Generally speaking, a rep/leader in the Directv program will arrive at the office around 9:30 or 10:00 am. They are then subjected to the brainwashing of "atmosphere" before they get to go out into the field and sell. They will be on their feet all day long playing the game of abuse for cash also known as sales. This lasts till about 7:00 pm when they get to go home. Between the time that they leave their house to go to their job and get back, they have worked the better part of 12 hours with a handful of peanuts to show for their efforts. A rep will do this for six days a week and when they do get their day off, they are too tired to do anything but the chores that they have neglected during the week. This unrelenting schedule leads to.......................... 2. Social disruption and isolation. The rep will naturally be isolated from friends and family due to the grueling work schedule. Later, reps are pressured into eliminating influences and people who are not sold on the business because "they will hold you back". It's not uncommon for reps to live with each other or even with their manager and is sometimes the only way to make ends meet. There are also team building nights and conventions designed to keep you cocooned in the shell that Smart Circle has created. 3. Control of information. The owner uses the tools that were given to him by Smart Circle to keep a steady stream of propaganda directed at the rep. It all starts with the morning routine where a rep enters a room with upbeat music and "positive" people. This is where they will brainwash you on their "opportunity" and get you to bond with those that have just been recruited. Information is carefully controlled in this setting. If someone is being negative or has objections, they are isolated and leaders will bombard this person with memorized rebuttals to counter their concerns. They will also insure that this person is not left alone to infect the rest of the group. This is a choreographed meeting where the owner is treated like a rock star and reps are meant to look up to him and hope beyond all hope that one day they will have their own office. 4. Escalating commitment. As you progress, you must show that you are willing to go the extra mile. As mentioned above, you might end up living with other cultists. You will be flown all over the country to meet the indoctrinated. Your phone will ring at all hours of the night with cult members wanting to have a "chit chat". This is done so that you eat, live and breath Smart Circle. The last thing that they want is for you to have a moment to yourself because you might remember who you are and realize that you are being conned. This country has had it's fair share of cult leaders. David Koresh, Charles Manson and Jim Jones are just some of the devils that America has had to deal with. Why do we allow Smart Circle to keep operating? If the propaganda of Joseph Goebbels ran contrary to the values promoted by this country, isn't it an insult to those who defeated the Third Reich to have a outfit like this do business in the U.S.? Go back to Canada already.

It's because they've created a system of independently run offices who answer to Smart Circle, but legally on paper are separate entities. It's a system of smoke and mirrors. Very deceptive and shady, but legal.

..or if we are talking about 100% commission only peddler jobs, you are going to find THOUSANDS of complaints from FORMER VICTIMS! But using your challenge, let's go with Walmart.

About 99 percent of the complaints against them ARE FROM CUSTOMERS, NOT EMPLOYEES and Walmart is not even that respected! You won't read complaints from employees saying they worked 100 hours and never received a paycheck. Why is that? Because WALMART PAYS IT'S PEOPLE!

Same thing with McDonalds, Burger King, Sears, Target, Microsoft, SAS, IBM, Manpower, etc etc etc, I could go on for the 10 years rattling off companies, respected and not respected.

THEY PAY THEIR PEOPLE! If you don't understand my point, please find an educated adult to read my posting and explain it to you.
